Digital advertising platforms have spent years promising greater control and increasingly sophisticated optimization tools. Now, some of those controls are disappearing as Meta shifts more placement decisions toward automation.
Fewer controls might sound like a disadvantage, but they also create an opportunity to rethink where human expertise matters most. Creative development, messaging strategy, and performance interpretation become even more valuable. Less control over the mechanics doesn’t have to mean less influence over the outcome.
The challenge is knowing when to trust automation and when to question it. Algorithms may be taking over more technical decisions, but successful advertising still depends on the people making the strategic ones.
