The way people watch TV has changed, but the value of the screen hasn’t. Voters are still watching, they’re just spread across broadcast, cable, streaming services, and connected devices. For political advertisers, the opportunity is figuring out how to reach that fragmented audience without giving up the impact that makes television valuable in the first place.
That’s where programmatic streaming gets interesting. Instead of treating CTV as simply another place to run a TV spot, campaigns can use audience data to be much more intentional about who sees it. It brings some of the targeting and measurement we expect from digital into an environment that still delivers the sight, sound, and motion of television.
The smartest media plans won’t make this a fight between traditional TV and streaming. They’ll use each to fill the gaps of the other. The goal is still reach, but the tools for building it have just gotten a lot better.
