For political campaigns, email only works if it actually lands. Gmail’s new Verified Sender Program gives campaigns and committees a more direct way to improve that equation ahead of the midterms, offering qualified political senders additional protection from having compliant emails automatically routed to spam.
However, access comes with strings attached. Political senders have to meet Google’s authentication standards, verify who they are, make unsubscribing easy, and keep spam complaints below the required threshold. That puts more pressure on campaigns to pay attention to the health of their lists, not just how often they’re sending to them.
The opportunity here goes beyond fundraising. Better deliverability means a more reliable direct line to voters, whether the goal is persuasion, mobilization, event promotion, volunteer recruitment, or raising money. Campaigns that treat list quality and sender reputation as part of their broader digital strategy will be in a much better position when inboxes get especially crowded closer to Election Day.
